Team Toureen takes on the Cyclothon UK challenge

Team Toureen Cyclists took to their bicycles for a gruelling 12 hour relay around the Grand Prix circuit at Brands Hatch.

The circuit itself is 2.3 miles of smooth tarmac but the steep hills, undulations and bends make it far from an easy ride, putting even the most experienced cyclist’s bike handling skills to the test.

It was an early start for the team who had to be ready for a 6.30 am briefing with the race starting at 7.30 am. Team Toureen had been allocated Pit Garage number 13 (unlucky for some) but this didn’t deter the team’s enthusiasm or competitiveness as one of 25 teams taking to the track.

The Toureen Team was made up of Morph Kassir, Don Kelly, Ian Flood, Damien Groarke, Damien Meehan and Eddie McDaid with many enviable sporting achievements among them including Ring of Kerry cyclists and a “The Race” (around Donegal) competitor.

Their aim was also to raise money for a very worthwhile charity, one that Toureen regularly supports, Marie Curie.  The team has so far raised over £1,500 but it’s not too late to donate, please go to https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/teamtoureen and give as generously as you can to this amazing charity who work tirelessly to help cancer sufferers and their families.

This was the first time that Toureen has entered a team in the Cyclothon UK challenge but we hope it will not be the last!  Well done Team Toureen.
